Weekly Bulletin for the Week of 9/6/2010
A. Each homeroom teacher will be provided with a list of locker assignments for their students. B. Additional assignments will be made by the Adult Supervisors (Ed Hall or Bob Menta) in C109 for new students or those without lockers. This is not to be done during class time. C. Students are not permitted to exchange locker assignments. D. Any malfunction of lockers is to be reported to one of the Adult Supervisors (Ed Hall or Bob Menta) in C109. Any problem with lockers should be taken care of during the first week of school. E. Homeroom teachers are to point out that only the one person assigned to a locker may use that locker. (This is for the student’s security.) Students are not to use lockers that have not been issued to them. Any hanging lock found on a locker will be removed. F. All students will be assigned hall lockers with combination locks and will be informed of the combination by the homeroom teacher by calling the student to the desk and giving the numbers as confidentially as possible. G. Remind students B stickers, posters, etc. are not to be attached to lockers. Students will be assessed fines for damage to their lockers. The Weight Room will open on Wednesday, September 15th. It will remain open every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday thereafter. I have been asked to clarify how the honor code is to be implemented. Copies are in the Student Planner. The responsibilities a teacher has are: 1. Review the code with your students B hopefully this was done during the first several days. 2. On each major assessment, re: test, paper, project, lab, etc. students are to write and sign the following statement: “on my honor, I have neither given nor received any unauthorized aid on this ____________________ (test, paper, exam, etc.)”. Some teachers have asked about printing the statement on a test and just having the students sign it. The consensus is that it is more effective to have the students write and sign the statement. 3. Teachers should promptly report any suspected violations to the grade level office. By making this a constant issue, we may be able to reverse a serious trend of academic dishonesty. Please keep in mind that we will need supervisors for the Junior and Senior Powder Puff practices, which will not start until after September 24th. Each class will have a minimum of four practices, and by the next bulletin we should have the dates for these practices. Please let CJ Davis or Marilyn DiCiurcio know if you are interested in supervising. Anyone interested in being on the Hall of Fame committee, please contact CJ Davis or Marilyn DiCiurcio. Please remind students about where we can hang signs. Bulletin boards are provided throughout the building and signs must be approved first. If you have any questions, please see CJ Davis in the Activities Office. Signs should be stapled and not taped to the covered bulletin boards. If you have not yet returned your faculty address card to Diane Coveleski, please do so by Wednesday, September 15th. This information is necessary so that the snow list can be generated. Please remember that all students leaving your area need a pass. The hall supervisors will escort a student back to your room if they are without a pass. Please have in your possession at all times the keys to lock the room(s) where your classes, study halls, etc. meet. If you need additional keys, please see Donna Orliner in the Main Office. It is imperative, for obvious safety reasons, you pick up the keys you need. Thank you for understanding. Please explain to your students that they are ONLY permitted to remain after school if: A. they are with a staff member; B. they are in the Library; C. they are in the assigned tutoring rooms; D. they are in the weight room or an intramural program. Students are not permitted to walk around the school building unless they are with a supervisor. If you see any students, especially groups, ask them to report to their activity. If they are not participating in any activity, then they should report to Library or leave the building. Our campus police and hall supervisors will be helping us to clear the halls after school. 1. All outside doors will be locked at 8:00 A.M. from the outside except the Main Entrance. 2. The back security gate near the weight room will be closed at 3:00 P.M., and the roll down gate at communications will be secured at 3:30 P.M. Everyone must use the C Wing intersection hall by Cafeteria II. 3. At the end of the day (by 3:00 P.M.), everyone is responsible for closing the windows and locking the doors to their rooms, especially areas where they store equipment and materials, unless you are still working in the room. If you have any questions about security, see Bernie O’Connor to discuss. DO NOT GIVE KEYS TO STUDENTS!! If you see equipment not locked, please lock up or call for assistance. Our police, security and maintenance staff have been instructed to report any areas unlocked or equipment left unsecured. Any coaches, advisors, etc, must submit names of unpaid volunteers to Dr. O=Breza so that the Board of Education approval can be sought. Please do this as soon as possible. If anyone wishes to place an item in the Weekly Bulletin, be sure to submit a memo or an email to Marilyn DiCiurcio (Activities Office) no later than Thursday of each week. A. Liability and privacy prohibits mass distribution of this list. If you, at any time, have any concerns about a student, please feel free to contact the nurses. Please remember that Wednesday, September 22nd is Picture Day for staff and students. The photo taken on Picture Day is for the yearbook and for your school ID card. This will be Day 0/A.
